The America Nepal Medical Foundation supports two types of projects: Funded Projects and Fund Raising Projects. Applicants may submit proposals for consideration under either or both classifications. The advantage of a Fund Raising Project is that it allows us to start raising funds for your project immediately, without waiting for the annual project approval process. It also gives us a mechanism by which we can help your project even if we are not able to commit our own funds. Approving your project initially as a fund raising project does not preclude our funding it later when resources are available.

Fund Raising Projects

A Fund Raising Project is one for which ANMF only commits to trying to raise funds (or to find equipment, personnel, etc.). ANMF will promote Fund Raising Projects in its outreach and fund raising efforts. The time line below does not apply to Fund Raising Projects. Fund Raising Project applications may be submitted at any time. ANMF will process them as they are received. Fund Raising Project proposals are first reviewed by ANMF/Nepal and recommendations forwarded to the Projects Committee who can approve them as Fund Raising Projects.

Funded Projects

A Funded Project is one that ANMF commits to funding (or provide equipment, personnel, etc.). The timeline below applies to Funded Projects. There are three classes of Funded Projects:

  • Normal Projects will be funded annually on a competitive basis. The timeline for normal project proposals is given below.

  • Time-Critical Projects should not wait for the annual review and funding process. Funds will be reserved to meet small, time-critical projects on an as-needed basis throughout the year. ANMF will strive to process them as quickly as possible.

Applications for time-critical projects may be submitted to ANMF/Nepal at any time. ANMF/Nepal will identify, evaluate and prioritize time-critical projects as received. Approved proposals will be forwarded to the Projects Committee of ANMF/America for further approval on a timely basis.

The Projects Committee may give final approval to any time-critical project not exceeding $500. Time-critical projects exceeding $500 will be evaluated and given provisional approval/rejection and passed on to the Board of Directors for final approval in an ongoing and timely manner.

The Board of Directors will, in a timely manner, give final approval or rejection to time-critical projects exceeding $500.

Applicants will be informed of the final approval/rejection of their proposals for time-critical projects as quickly as they can be processed by ANMF.

ANMF has a limited budget for time-critical projects.

  • Development Projects have a scope beyond ANMF's normal budget and require special resource development efforts. Even if you have a project that appears to be much larger than what we normally support, let us know what you need and we will see what we can do.

Development projects may be submitted to ANMF/Nepal at any time. ANMF/Nepal will evaluate development projects as received. Approved proposals will be forwarded to the Projects Committee of ANMF/America for further approval on a timely basis.

The Projects Committee will review proposals as received and pass them on to the Board of Directors with recommendations for approval or rejection.

The Board of Directors will give final approval for development projects.

Applicants will be informed of the final approval/rejection of their proposals for major development projects as they are processed by ANMF.

For more information about the types of projects ANMF is looking to fund, please see Project Proposal Guidelines.

ANMF/Nepal will publish on this website by January 1, 2009 criteria for the selection of projects to be funded by ANMF in 2009.

March 1, 2009 - Deadline for Submitting Proposals

Normal project proposals seeking ANMF support in 2009 must be submitted to ANMF/Nepal by March 1, 2009. ANMF is on an annual budget cycle and the bulk of its funding will be allocated at one time on a competitive basis each year.

April 1, 2009 - ANMF/Nepal Review

ANMF/Nepal will evaluate and prioritize projects seeking ANMF support in 2009. Prioritized proposals will be forwarded by April 1, 2009 to the Projects Committee of ANMF/America for further approval.

May 1, 2009 - ANMF/America Projects Committee Review

The Projects Committee, while respecting the needs assessment and prioritization of ANMF/Nepal, will, by May 1, 2009, prioritize the proposals with regard to the total amount of funding available. The Foundation may choose to fund multiple small projects having a broader impact rather than a single project focused on a single institution or a limited population, regardless of their relative prioritization by ANMF/Nepal.

The Projects Committee's evaluation of project proposals may result in:

  • Return to ANMF/Nepal with a request for further information
  • Return to ANMF/Nepal with suggestions for modification
  • Recommendation for rejection or approval and forwarding to the Board of Directors

Normal projects will be evaluated and recommended for approval/rejection and passed on to the Board of Directors for final approval.

May 31, 2009 - ANMF/America Board of Directors Review

The Board of Directors will, by May 31, 2009, review and give final approval or rejection to the projects approved/rejected provisionally by the Projects Committee for the year 2009.

July 1, 2009 - Notification to Applicants

By July 1, 2009, applicants will be informed of the final approval/rejection of their proposals for projects for the year 2009.
