Project Description
Himalayan Health Care, founded in 1992, has treated over 30,000 patients in remote mountain villages of Nepal. We have established clinics and trained villagers in front line care. Please review our web site at Himalayan-HealthCare.org. Now we are building a hospital in Ilam which will open in November of 2003. Presently the Ilam region is one of the most underserved regions in Nepal.

This is a request for training of medical staff, including health assistants, lab and x-ray technicians, nurses, health teachers, etc. The requested funds can go towards two physicians salaries who will serve as teachers. These physicians will in turn receive education from visiting Himalayan Health Care physicians.

Himalayan Health Care is formally requesting $10,000 annually for three years. Our budget calls for break even in the fourth.

Additional Information
The hospital in Ilam will serve a population of 250,000 people. Clinics following the model of Himalayan Health Care will be established in the region. Referrals to the Ilam hospital will be made.

Teams of physicians will visit Ilam to further training of the Nepali doctors. The Nepali physician may in fact be a specialist, but the scope of service in this region is very broad, and specialists from other disciplines, such as infectious disease, plastic surgery, etc will be made.

Please visit our web site for a complete description of our organization (Himalayan-HealthCare.org).

Of course the health assistants will have other sources of training, following the formal programs existing in Nepal. The physician teachers will be part of a long term process for improvement of health care delivery.
