Good morning!

On behalf of Nyaya Health, we wanted to thank you for your continued support this year, and provide you with the first 2009 Update. On April 6th of this year Nyaya reached its one-year anniversary in providing clinical services to the Achham region in western Nepal! Prior to Nyaya’s arrival, there was no allopathic doctor in an area of over 250,000 people. We now have a medical center where we provide free care for about 100 patients per day, with a full outpatient department, 24-hour emergency and obstetric services, mobile community health worker follow up, a laboratory and free pharmacy, and the only ultrasound service in the region. More recently, Nyaya reached a second milestone – on April 20th, the Nepali Ministry of Health and Population approved our proposal to renovate and open Bayalpata Hospital – previously abandoned and very near to our current clinic. All of this has been made possible through your continued support, and we hope at this exciting time you will take a moment to read about our plans for 2009 and beyond!

As before, Nyaya continues to be a fully transparent organization, and all of our budgets, expenditures, protocols and clinical data are posted publicly on our website at www.nyayahealth.org. Our aim with such an “open source” approach is twofold: to ensure critical feedback of our work, in a continual effort to enhance our own services, and at the same time to share the lessons we have learned from our patients in Achham with others providing health care services in similar situations around the world.

Nyaya is a completely volunteer-run organization with 100% of donations going directly to medical care and service delivery in Nepal. Your continued support has been absolutely critical during this past year, and as we enter year 2, we are honored to be taking on these new challenges.
