ANMF-SIMON JOINT CME PROGRAM, November 2008

Project Report:

ANMF-SIMON JOINT CME PROGRAM 2008 was held during the 9th National Conference of Society of Internal Medicine of Nepal (SIMON) on November 8th and 9th, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Bouddha, Kathmandu, Nepal. The theme of the conference was “INFECTIOUS DISEASES: STATE OF THE ART IN 2008”. The course directors were Dr. Janak Koirala, Associate Professor of Medicine, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, Illinois, USA, and Dr. Prativa Pandey, Medical Director, CIWEC Clinic Travel Medicine Center, Kathmandu, Nepal. The invited guest speakers from USA included Dr. Richard Novak (Professor of Medicine, University of Illinois), Dr. David Pitrak (Professor of Medicine and Chief of Infectious Diseases, University of Chicago), Dr. Nancy Khardori (Professor and Chief of Infectious Diseases, Southern Illinois University), and Dr. V. Ted Barnett (Professor of Medicine, University of Wisconsin). Dr. Novak, Dr. Khardori, Dr. Pandey and Dr. Pitrak also served as panel members for various sessions of the SIMON conference.

The CME conference was well attended with over 200 internal medicine physicians and trainees from various institutes of Nepal. Bound handouts of the CME program were distributed free of charge to the participants.

Prior to the CME Program, on the 7th of November, a reception for the guest speakers was hosted by Dr. Prativa Pandey and Dr. Janak Koirala along with the ANMF Nepal Board at Shangrila Hotel.
