Subject: Re: LAST MINUTE UPDATES PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY

Dear Dr Sunil,

We have selected one vdc which is called ""Sukumbasi Tol"" having the population of approximately 15,000 people. About 350 children has been screened so far with three kid having surgical problem and 30 having refractive error needing glasses.

The project has been planned in the following way.

First phase:

Giving vision screening training to 20 health personals. This time we have selected Auxillary nursing staffs who are posted in the villages.

Second phase: screening the kids.

Give information to all house holds about the particular day and time of screening in local schools. screening of kids will be done by these trained personnel once a week. The screening will be supervised by ophthalmologist. We have appointed one field coordinator, and one nursing superviser for this project.

Third phase:

The kids needing furture management will be referred to the hospital.

Purchasing of equipments:

One hand held portable palm scan ( I am sending the photographs) has been purchased. This is an American company called Micro Medical Device (MMD) which have one distributor (Shardul Enterprises) in India, nearest from Nepal. The cost of the machine is $4395.

We are still working on the vitrectomy machine as brand new Japanese machine costs high. So we are looking for some used one or the Indian machine which is cheaper. I would appreciate if you know and could provide some links regarding the purchase of this machine.

I am sorry for not been able to provide the whole information as the project has just started and in very preliminary stage. Thank you for your concern and support.

Regards

Srijana
