Janak Koirala called the meeting to order at 9:30am.

Opening address by Marvin Brustin, Honorary Consul General of Nepal

Emphasizing the need for Nepal to become stronger economically in order to reach stability, Mr. Brustin stressed the necessity of job development at all levels in Nepal. He also pointed out that considering the talent and commitment of its members, ANMF could achieve more with better financial resources.

Alison Brustin – Fundraising to Make a Difference

A benefit for ANMF is being organized by Alison Brustin in Chicago on September 10, 2005. The venue has been reserved and can seat up to 600 people. Wine has been donated for the event. A raffle or silent auction is a possibility in conjunction with the event which will be a cultural program of Nepalese music and dance and America music and dance.

Janak Koirala, MD – Chairperson’s Report

Activities and projects of ANMF from 1996 to 2005 were summarized. Life members were recognized and future projects were discussed. Details can be found at: Chairperson’s Report.

Julia Shepardson – Executive Director’s Report

ANMF 2004 income totaled $17,095 and expenses were $23,628. As of May 31, 2005 reserves in America were $31,164 and reserves in Nepal were $6,848. Membership, fundraising events, and administrative issues are at: Executive Director’s Report.

Sanjaya Khanal, MD – 2004 Projects

2004 projects were discussed: Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital Generator for the operating theater; Patan Hospital echocardiography training; and Kathmandu Model Hospital speech therapy training. For details: 2004 Projects.

Janak Koirala, MD – 2005 Projects

The following 2005 projects were discussed: Prolapse Project for women in rural Nepal; year 2 of the speech therapy program for cleft palate patients; and fundraising projects were discussed. For details: 2005 Projects.

Gaury Adhikary, MD for Ganesh Dangal, MD – Uterine Prolapse Project Report

The success of the uterine prolapse project was the topic of the report. With ANMF support, 92 women had surgical repair of uterine prolapse at the Gauryshanker General Hospital in rural Dolakha. For details see: Uterine Prolapse Project Report.

Julia Shepardson for Aruna Pant – ANMF/ Nepal Report

ANMF/Nepal was registered as an NGO in Nepal in 2002. The status of 2004 projects, financial reports, and the current health situation in Nepal were a focus of the report. Training of technicians to maintain medical equipment and the training of hospital administrators are goals for the future. Details are at ANMF/ Nepal Report.

ELECTION OF DIRECTORS

Directors with Terms Expiring in 2005

The terms of Gaury Adhikary, Bob Gerzoff, Sanjaya Khanal, Sunil Sharma, Fred Shepardson, Kristin Stueber, and Libby Wilson are expiring. All were re-elected to the Board of Directors by a unanimous vote.

Election of New Directors

The Board voted to increase the number of Board Members from 25 to 27. Sangita Basnet, and Rekha Hamal were duly nominated and elected to the Board of Directors.
