Dear Friends,

This note is to solicit your support for the upcoming Seventh Annual Conference of the America Nepal Medical Foundation June 27th to 29th, 2003 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

ANMF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1996 by a concerned group of North American physicians. ANMF is dedicated to strengthening the medical education infrastructure in Nepal and the technical capability of Nepalese medical institutions. Nepal is one of the least developed countries in the world with insufficient medical infrastructure and expertise. Health indicators like infant mortality, malnutrition, doctor to patient ratio and access to health care rank among the worst in the world.

ANMF is trying to help this desperate situation by providing technical and professional resources from North America. Since 1996, we have provided educational resources, supplied medical equipment, held multiple educational activities and supported many worthy medical projects in Nepal. Our projects this year include helping government hospital to train a renal histopathologist and technician, providing medical school management training for the new Kathmandu University medical school and providing a sorely needed anesthesia machine to the disabled children’s hospital in Banepa.

One of the key functions of ANMF is to provide a forum to exchange ideas and facilitate progress in the medical field in Nepal. This year, the theme of our annual conference will be “Supporting Medical Progress in Nepal”. We are anticipating that the American Ambassador to the Kingdom of Nepal, His Excellency Michael E. Malinowski, will be our keynote speaker.
