ANMF ACTIVITIES AT A GLANCE

HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT ACTIVITIES

ANMF is dedicated to building Nepal’s healthcare infrastructure and developing the country’s ability to be self sustaining in the instruction and training of healthcare professionals. The Foundation’s first priority is education and the transfer of technical know-how to Nepal, including continuing medical education programs (CME), library materials, medical technology maintenance skills, etc. ANMF is open to any proposal that promises to strengthen Nepal's ability to deliver quality medical care to its citizens.

ANMF members and supporters have regularly volunteered to visit various healthcare institutions in Nepal to provide their expertise and to participate in various educational activities. This has also helped to develop collaborative relationships between Nepali healthcare institutions and various institutions in USA, Canada and other countries. Every year, ANMF provides funding support to various healthcare related projects in Nepal.

SOME RECENT AND ONGOING ANMF PROJECTS IN NEPAL

Projects funded by ANMF in 2005-2006:

• Surgical repair of prolapsed uterus in women of rural Nepal
• Speech therapy training for paramedics to assist rural children after cleft palate repair (second year)
• Fundraising project to build an inpatient building (Smriti Bhawan) for Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital: $7,450 raised by ANMF to date

Projects funded by ANMF in 2004-2005:

• Speech therapy training for paramedics to assist rural children after cleft palate repair
• Electrical generator for the operating room at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital
• Echocardiography training for a physician to enable Patan Hospital to diagnose cardiac diseases and improve patient care

Projects funded by ANMF in 2003-2004:

• Anesthesia machine for the Hospital & Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children, Banepa
• Training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in renal histopathology for a Bir Hospital physician
• Established healthcare related internet access for Butwal’s Nepal Medical Association with NMA and HealthNet Nepal
• Medical management training for a Kathmandu University faculty member

OTHER REGULAR ACTIVITIES OF ANMF

• Annual Continuing Medical Education Programs for Nepali physicians in association with the Society of Internal Medicine of Nepal
• Several ANMF members travel to Nepal volunteering their time in medical education and other healthcare related activities in Nepal
• Annual Conference of ANMF - This year’s conference was held in Newark, New Jersey. Our next annual conference will be June 22nd through 24th 2007, in Toronto, Canada – join us!

The ANMF website is regularly updated to provide information about ANMF and its activities. It is also a useful resource for the healthcare information in Nepal. Medical institutions in Nepal can apply electronically for ANMF grants by filling out a brief proposal form on the website. The ANMF Bulletin Board is a service to help match donors with requests from Nepal.
